Safaricom  has announced plans to take its M-Pesa overdraft service, Fuliza, to seven new African countries as the telco seeks to tap into the high demand for instant, micro-loans. The telecommunications firm wants to introduce Fuliza in six other countries outside Kenya. These include Tanzania, Lesotho, Ghana, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Mozambique where Safaricom’s mobile money service M-Pesa is already available through its parent company, Vodacom. Images of a billboard containing a derogatory term purportedly erected within Nairobi city have elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans online. Chief justice David Maraga on Monday announced the reshuffling of five high court judges. Among the judges reshuffled are Chacha Mwita, Weldon Korir, Wilfrida Okwany, Aaron Makau and Reuben Nyakundi. Justice Chacha Mwita has been moved to Kajiado High Court from Milimani law courts in Nairobi. Chacha was in the Constitutional and Human Rights Division and will be starting a new role as the presiding judge. Kenyan Government Warns Over Toxic Peanut Butter

The government has confirmed the presence of aflatoxin, a poisonous substance, in peanut butter brand Nuteez, making it unfit for human consumption. Government Chemist Francis Maina said that the peanut butter was found to be containing 24.08ppb aflatoxin, 14.08ppb more than the required limit. DCI Recruits 600 Specialists

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has recruited 600 police officers to join its team in a bid to improve operations, Kenyans report. The 600 officers were selected after intensive interviews in the Kenya Police and Administration Police Unit. The officers, who are supposed to join the DCI Academy on January 28, 2019, will be required to undergo an intensive training program for 6 months.
