A highway ambush leaves one dead and police officers nursing injuries. The well-laid trap by armed bandits along the Napeitom-Lokori road in Turkana East left a primary school teacher dead and two officers under medical care.
The teacher, who has since been identified as, Oscar Keya, was on his way home to enjoy some much-needed rest after the schools were closed for the mid-term holidays.

He had reportedly opted to travel with the security officers for safety reasons as there were no public vehicles plying the dangerous route.
Confirming the Wednesday ambush, the County Police Commander (CPC), Samuel Ndanyi announced that the two Administrative Police (AP) officers had sustained serious injuries.
However, he added that the two had been rushed to the AIC Health centre in Lokori, and were expected to make full recovery.
The marauders reportedly emerged from the bushes and peppered the AP’s Land Cruiser with bullets, killing the primary school teacher on the spot.
Ndanyi went on to disclose that the vehicle was headed towards Lokori trading centre from Napeitom prior to the coordinated attack.
He, however, reassured the residents by announcing that officers from the General Service Unit (GSU), as well as the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), had been deployed at the area.
He further reiterated that one way or the other, they would flush out the bandits, adding that they would not rest until the murderous marauders were captured.
The CPC also divulged that he had already set in motion a plan to airlift the injured officers to Eldoret or Nairobi so that they would be able to access highly specialized treatment in order for them to stand a chance at a full recovery.
