Porn Addiction Among Kenyan Teens

A new poll reveals report on porn addiction among Kenyan teens. Over 73% of the youth get their first sexual encounter at 13 years. The study shows that 25% of students have engaged in sexual intercourse with the majority of them being male.

Among those students engaged during the poll, more than half have watched pornographic content with 62% being male. Equally, half of the students had a discussion on sexual related matters at least once in the past 12 months. Female students are seen to have discussed more than male with most having discussed such matters with parents.

The report shows the media as being a main source of information about sex with Internet being top of the list. Other sources were school teachers, parents and religious leaders.

Shocking to know is the fact that many of the students on holiday take alcohol and drugs while others choose to visit girlfriends and boyfriends as part of ‘holiday activities’. While on holiday many go for sleepovers at their friends’ places while others engage in sex as a holiday activity.

Not all is lost though, as on the positive side, majority of them prefer to stay at home while others opt to engage in religious activities.

The study was carried between January and April with the objective being to evaluate knowledge and perceptions towards topical issues among in-school teens.

Asked what they would like to tell their parent, most responded by saying “I love you”.

Majority of students have an idea what safe sex is, although 10% believe it is sex between married people, further giving use of condoms as their biggest perception of safe sex. The study shows that girls have more knowledge on someone who has been involved in same-sex relationship compared to boys.

While most students prefer soda, quite a big number actually admitted that they go for alcoholic drinks with juices, water and energy drinks drawing fewer numbers.

This trend of teens being active sexually seems to be consistent as another study revealed almost had the same results.

It had it that seven out of every 10 girls between 15 and 19 who live in urban areas are sexually active with many confessing that they don’t use protection.

It had it that 71% of girls in towns are more sexually active as compared to their male counterparts meaning they are sleeping with ‘sponsors’.
