“Congratulations are in order to the National KABADI team for clinching a bronze in kabaddi Men’s world cup championship in Taiwan,” Sonko stated.
The team put up a brave fight, losing narrowly 34-31 to China in the semifinals but beat big teams like Malaysia in the quarterfinals among other countries.
While celebrating the success of the team on Wednesday, the governor promised to bankroll Harambee Stars with Ksh20 million if they reach the quarterfinals of Afcon 2019.
He even vowed to sell some of his property just to honour the pledge provided they met the target.
“Now you can take this to the bank. If Harambee Stars makes us proud by qualifying at least for the quarterfinals in the Africa cup of Nations in Egypt, I will sell one of my beach plots or take a loan against it and reward them with 20,000,000/=,” vowed the governor.
Sonko stated that he had never issued false promises to the players since he joined politics.
