Waititu’s bank information baffles EACC detectives. They were shocked to find out that accounts operated by the governor were nearly empty.
The revelations contrasted the governor’s own admission of being a wealthy man.
The officers are now probing whether Waititu may have used proxies and immediate family members to transact millions that he has been accused of siphoning from the county government.

“We are on a trail to establish the unexplained wealth that he has amassed within the short period that he has been in office.
“The governor seems to have embarked on a buying spree of property, without blinking an eye about their prices,” EACC spokesman Yassin Amaro said.
As anti-corruption sleuths ransacked Waitutu’s homes in Runda and Garden City on Thursday, another team also searched the house of Diana Nduta, Waititu’s daughter, in Belcrest Gardens in Kileleshwa.
In a statement to newsrooms, EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak revealed that they are investigating allegations of irregular award of tenders valued at Ksh588 million to companies associated with Governor Waititu and members of his immediate family.
“Preliminary investigations show that contractors paid monies to senior county officials, their companies or relatives through proxies.
“As part of the ongoing investigation, search operations were conducted by EACC on 23rd May 2019 in the homes and offices of the Kiambu County Governor, his family members, directors of private companies and ten senior employees of the county government,” Mbarak noted.
A number of Governor Waititu’s county programmes, among them Kaa Sober, which was aimed at rehabilitating alcoholics, are also under scrutiny.
